Stuart Liddell
From Inveraray, started piping at the age of nine and was originally taught by his grandfather, the late Pipe Major Ronald McCallum M.B.E. and later, Arthur Gillies. He has also had tuition from Jim Henderson and Hugh MacCallum.
One of the most gifted pipers in the world today, he has won three Clasps at Inverness, the Senior Piobaireachd at Oban five times, both Gold Medals, is a three-time Glenfiddich Piping Champion and has won the Donald MacLeod Memorial in 2016 and, most recently, The Springbank Invitational in Campbeltown 2023.
Stuart is founder and Pipe Major of the Inveraray & District Pipe Band, winners of the World Pipe Band Championship in 2017, 2019 and 2024 in Grade 1. Previously he was a member of the Scottish Power Pipe Band for seven years thereafter joining the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band from Vancouver, Canada with whom he played for ten years.
A piano tuner by trade, he is also a piping instructor at Mid Argyll Primary and Lochgilphead High Schools.
Glenfiddich Champion
Stuart is the Founder and Pipe Major of the World Champion Pipe Band, Inveraray and District. He is one of the world's most exciting pipers and is noted for his excellent solo performances and recordings at numerous Simon Fraser University Pipe Band concerts.
His truly brilliant solo performances have inspired many to take up this most difficult of all instruments. Students, young and older have benefited from his incredible ability to motivate and influence their journey and stimulate creativity.

Pipe Band
- Winning the World Pipe Band Championships with SFU in 1999, 2001 and 2008.
- Forming the Inveraray & District Pipe Band in 2004, winning the World Pipe Band Championship in Novice Juvenile in 2007 and Juvenile in 2008.
- Winning the Grade 2 Scottish, British, European, World and Cowal Pipe Band Championships in 2009.
- Winning the Grade 1 Scottish, British, European and World Pipe Band Championships in 2017 as well as Winning the Champion of Champions in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 making Stuart the winner of the Champion of Champions for the 4th consecutive year.
